MOQ — minimum order quantity — is the smallest amount a factory will produce in a single order. It is the first number most buyers see, and the one that ends the most sourcing conversations. It is not a seller's whim: a production run has a real fixed cost — line setup, tooling and dies, material minimums, quality setup — and the MOQ is where the factory's unit price stops losing money.
Typical ranges across our 7 categories
The ranges below are the typical factory minimums we work with in Jinhua. Your exact MOQ is always confirmed on the quote — it moves with your specifications, your customizations and the factory's schedule.
| Category | Typical MOQ | Why it lands there |
|---|---|---|
| Off-Road Motorcycles | 1+ | Big-ticket assembled products; one unit is a full sale |
| Jewelry & Accessories | 10–500 | Low setup cost, high fragility, fast trend turnover |
| Home & Hardware | 50–1,000 | Mixed materials; some tooling for metal parts |
| Bags & Luggage | 100–1,000 | Cutting and sewing line setup, zippers and hardware minimums |
| Toys & Stationery | 100–1,000 | Compliance testing (CPC / CE / EN71) amortized over the run |
| Apparel & Socks | 200–2,000 | Knitting and dye lots, size runs, Oeko-Tex material packages |
| Drinkware & Thermoses | 500–3,000 | Deep-draw tooling, vacuum sealing lines, coating colors |
Three ways to handle an MOQ you do not want
- Sample first, then decide. Our process puts the sample and the quote in front of you before any production. A 500-piece MOQ is a different risk with a confirmed sample than without one.
- Negotiate a trial order. Many Jinhua factories will accept a lower MOQ for a first-time trial order, sometimes at a slightly higher unit price. Tell us in your request that this is a trial order and we will ask — the answer is often yes.
- Consolidate, do not multiply. If you are testing several categories, we consolidate production from multiple factories into one shipment from Ningbo. You pay freight once instead of seven times, which is what makes small MOQs affordable.
MOQ is a starting point, not a wall
The number on the card is the factory's default, and defaults exist to fill a line quickly. A buyer who can commit to reorders, who standardizes colors and sizes, or who takes a full container, routinely gets numbers well below the listed minimum. Our job is to make that negotiation explicit and documented — the MOQ you are quoted is the MOQ you are quoted, confirmed in writing before production starts.
