Yiwu vs Yongkang: Two Hubs, Two Sourcing Strategies

Updated October 18, 2026·All notes

Jinhua prefecture runs on five manufacturing clusters, but two of them carry most of the conversation: Yiwu and Yongkang. They are close neighbors, and they are fundamentally different places to source from. Choosing between them is the first strategic decision in most Jinhua orders — and it is a decision about your product, not about price.

Yiwu: breadth, speed, trends

Yiwu is the world's largest small commodity wholesale market — 75,000+ booths and 1.8M+ SKUs. The logic of the city is variety and velocity: if a consumer product is trending anywhere, it is almost certainly being sampled, reworked and repriced in Yiwu this quarter. The strengths show up in bags, jewelry, toys, stationery and seasonal goods, where you get fast sampling, low unit prices, and the ability to run a dozen candidate designs in parallel before committing to production. When your product line is wide and your trend cycle is short, Yiwu is the engine room.

Yongkang: depth, tooling, certification

Yongkang is the opposite animal. It is China's hardware capital — the place that makes 70% of the world's vacuum flasks and thermoses — and its specialization extends into electric bicycles, outdoor furniture, hardware tools and metal products. Where Yiwu's advantage is choice, Yongkang's is depth: deep-draw tooling for drinkware, automated metal lines, and a base of ISO-certified factories built for volume production with real engineering. When your product is metal, engineered or certification-driven — and you expect to reorder it for years — Yongkang is where the margin lives.

Why you do not have to choose

The cluster question is a real problem only if you source each cluster yourself: separate visits, separate negotiations, separate freight. With one local partner covering all five, a typical order can pair a Yongkang drinkware run with a Yiwu jewelry line and a Zhuji sock order — three factories, one QC standard (AQL 2.5 on every leg), and one consolidated shipment from Ningbo. The clusters stay specialized; your supply chain stays single-threaded.
